Jerry Henry Mckinnies

DE SOTO – Jerry Henry McKinnies, 74, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by his family.



Jerry was born on October 21, 1947 to Lloyd and Venida (Parks) McKinnies in Carbondale. He married Deann Rich on October 27, 1974 in Carbondale, Illinois.



Jerry is survived by his wife of 47 years Deann; son, Michael (Jeri) McKinnies, daughter, Kelli (Brad) Bean; grandchildren, Ashtyn (Kendall) Toliver, Tyler (Ali) Krough, Kasey (Trey) Waldrop, Autumn Stearns, Kylie Bean, Bryce McKinnies, Tayte McKinnies and 9 Great grandchildren; sister, Judy Harbison; nephew, Daniel Fox and niece, Mandi Rich.



He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers in law, Ronald Harbison and David Rodney Rich.



Jerry served in the Illinois National Guard from 1966 until 1973. He worked as a coal miner at Consolidated Coal Burning Star #2, then a truck driver for McKinnies Trucking and Norman Fred Trucking. Jerry enjoyed hunting and trucking. He was also a member of the De Soto volunteer fire department, coached little league for many years and served on the Desoto Village Board. The one thing he loved the most was aggravating all his grandchildren. He was proud to be their Grumpy Grandpa.



Funeral services for Jerry will be 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Gary Darnell officiating. Visitation will be from 3 until 4:45 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Masonic Rites following the visitation time.



Donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or St Jude Children's Research Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
