GRAND TOWER - James Douglas “Doug” Knupp, 77, passed away on February 21, 2022 at Cobden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Cobden.
Doug was born on February 12, 1945 in Grand Tower to Robert and Dorothy (Reed) Knupp. James married Marsha Erhardt on May 5, 2001 in Grand Tower.
Doug is survived by his wife, Marsha and son Diego of Grand Tower; son, Jamie (Dina) Knupp; daughters, Darla (Jason) Harris, Heather (Steven) Hickman and Lori (James) Herron; brothers, Don and Marty (Carol) Knupp; sisters, Katheryn (Charles) Burdick, Patricia (Jerry) Hart, Rita Raney, and Linda Wilson; grandchildren, Kyliegh Jo and Jaci Lynn Harris, Sam Lindley, Wyatt and Ellie Herron; special sister-in-law, Joann Knupp; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack, Bobby and Virgil Knupp; grandson, Dakota Harris and nephew, Erik Knupp.
Doug served his country in the U.S. Airforce during Vietnam and Korea in the Red Horse Brigade. He worked as the chief engineer doing offshore drilling and then worked for the City of Grand Tower as the Utilities Supervisor until his retirement. Doug enjoyed spending time outdoors especially camping, hunting and fishing but most of all Doug loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Graveside services will military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Walker Hill Cemetery with Bob Henson officiating.
Memorials may be made in Doug’s name to Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the service.
