MURPHYSBORO – James A. Brasel Sr., 83, of Murphysboro passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at Saint Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, Illinois.
He was born on September 30, 1937 in Anna to Wretha (Clutts) Brasel and Roy E. Brasel. He married Peggy Hale in Carbondale on May 25, 1957. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2019.
Jim was a conductor for the Illinois Central Railroad for over 40 years until his retirement in August 1999.
Jim is survived by three sons, Robert "Butch" (Cheryl) Brasel, James "Jay" Brasel Jr. both of Murphysboro and Christopher "Rusty" (Becky) Brasel of Ava; five grandchildren, Charlie (Ashley) Brasel of Centralia, Brittany Brasel of Murphysboro, Jennifer (Daniel) Tow of Elkville, Dylan Brasel and Mikayla Brasel both of Ava; three great-grandchildren, Aidan Brasel of Centralia, Macey Tow and Jackson Tow both of Elkville;
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters, Beverly Barnett and Shirley Murray-Clark.
Funeral Services for Jim will be at 11:30 a.m., Friday, January 8, 2021 at Murdale Gardens of Memory, Murphysboro. Due to COVID restrictions facemasks and social distancing are required.
