DESOTO - Jacqueline “Jacquie” Dorothy Scolari, age 75, passed away on May 28, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on September 27, 1943 in Urbana, Illinois, to Elmer Robert “Bob” and Dorothy Yates. She married Paul Scolari on July 5, 1975, and the two shared almost 44 years of loving marriage.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine “Katie” and Jeremy Childress, and Sarah and Josiah “Jo” Holshouser, and by her grandchildren, Charlotte, Luke, and Sophie Childress, and soon-to-be baby girl Holshouser, by her sister Kathy Ninmer, and sisters-in-law Sally Pecoraro and Melinda Restivo, and their families, as well as some very close friends.
Jacquie taught high school English for many years, then was the director of the Medical Resource Center at SIUC, retiring in 2009. She loved teaching and interacting with her students and coworkers. Jacquie was involved with Friends of the Library, Meals on Wheels, and PEO. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, volunteering, yoga classes, shopping, and above all, spending time with her family and friends. Jacquie’s legacy was to be kind to one another, to laugh and have fun, and to love your family and friends. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
A celebration of her life will be on Saturday June 8, 2019, at 4 pm, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale, Illinois. A gathering time will be held before the celebration from 3 – 4 pm at the funeral home to share condolences and memories of Jacquie. Donations may be made to the Carbondale Meals on Wheels or SIH Cancer Institute (Carterville).
