Jack Sims Earll

Makanda – Jack Sims Earll, 81, of Makanda passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 12:50 a.m. in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.



Jack was born on February 9, 1935 in Carbondale to George Clinton and Edna Lucile (Wiley) Earll. He married Barbara Throgmorton on December 27, 1957 in Makanda. She survives and is of Makanda.



Other survivors include his daughter, Gayl (Ed) Robinson of Makanda; sons, Wally (Trisha) Earll and Lyle Earll both of Makanda; grandchildren, Edwin (Stephanie) and Jason (Ashlie) Robinson and Jacob, Jeremiah, and Matthew Earll; great-grandchildren, Piper, Joshua, Gabriel, Ariel, Christian, Colton, Alivia and Lucy; brother, Nick Earll of Carbondale; and cousin Luan Rosson Cottingham and her son Frank Cottingham.



He is proceeded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Marge Earll and cousin, Steven Cottingham.



Jack served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959 and then served in the Army Reserve until 1963. Jack worked as a locksmith at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Makanda Masonic Lodge #434 for over 46 years and was heavily involved in the Makanda community over the years by serving on the Unity Point School Board, Evergreen Cemetery Board and the Makanda Veterans Memorial Wall Board.



Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Makanda Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Holmes officiating. Military and Masonic rites will be performed at the graveside.



Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and can be made to Makanda Evergreen Cemetery, Hospice of Southern Illinois and Makanda Masonic Lodge #434. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery or can be sent to the funeral home.
