Imogene Audrey Berkey

CARBONDALE – Imogene Berkey, 93, passed away at 9:20 AM on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Shawnee Christian Village in Herrin.



Imogene was born August 23, 1924 to James Jefferson and Mamie Estelle (Forby) Davis in Pomona.  She married Darl Carl Berkey on August 24, 1944 at the First Baptist Church in Carbondale.  He preceded her in death on May 20, 2013.   



Imogene is survived by her daughter, Marla Jean Owens (John) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren, Danielle Dee Hindman (Phillip) of Murphysboro, Jeremy Ryan Owens of DesMoines, Iowa, Lindsay Renee Owens of DesMoines, Iowa, Zachary Thomas Owens of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Rachel Elizabeth Owens of DesMoines, Iowa; two great grandchildren, Brock Raymond McBride and Ivan Phillip Hindman both of Murphysboro; brother, Eugene Davis of Makanda; and many loving nieces and nephews.   



She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl; son, Carl Gene Berkey; sister, Mable Davis Gibbs; brothers, Theodore Buster Davis, Carl Davis, John Dale Davis and one infant brother.     



Imogene was a member of Union Hill Christian Church for over 60 years.  She enjoyed reading her Bible, praying, working in her garden raising vegetables, and spending time with her family and friends.        

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2018 at Union Hill Christian Church, Carbondale, with Pastor Gary Darnell officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, Murphysboro.  Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale.     



The preferred form of remembrance is memorial donations to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home and church.
