DE SOTO - Howard Blumenstock, 90, of De Soto, passed away at 12:44 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2021 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Howard was born on January 8, 1931, in De Soto, Illinois to John and Lucy (Beasley) Blumenstock.
Howard and Thelma White were married in Kentucky on March 16, 1950. They celebrated their 70th Anniversary in 2020. Thelma preceded Howard in death on November 12, 2020.
Howard worked for Western Water Proofing in St. Louis, MO as a Tuckpointer for 17 years. He was a life time farmer. Howard loved raising Hereford cows, gardening, fishing and pheasant hunting. He was very active in sports, participating in basketball and softball into his late 50’s. He coached and played fast pitch softball in De Soto with his sons. Howard and Thelma were very active in the De Soto Community Park. Most of all Howard loved his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Howard is survived by his four children, David (Phyllis) Blumenstock, Dorris McKee, Ronald (Susan) Blumenstock, and Rhonda Blumenstock, all of DeSoto; eight grandchildren, Anthony Blumenstock, Cody (Brittany) Blumenstock, Christy (Christopher) Bockler, Jason (Rachel) McKee, Jonathan McKee, Alicia (Rob) Lorenz, Kyle Blumenstock, and Alexandria Blumenstock; five great grandchildren Elizabeth Bockler, Joshua Bockler, Noah Lorenz, Genevieve Lorenz, and Addison Blumenstock; sister, Wilma Pulcifer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son-in-law, Frank McKee; three brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services for Howard will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at De Soto Cemetery with Pastor Josh Wehrmeier officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the De Soto Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in DeSoto or Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
