Henry Jeff "Pistol" Hale

AVA - Henry 'Jeff' Hale, 65, of Ava, formerly of Grand Tower, passed away 2:38 a.m., Sunday, February 10, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale. Friends and family may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the funeral home. Reverend Larry Dean Worthen will officiate the service. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Carbondale, with military rites, provided by the Carroll Foster VFW Post #3455 of Anna, and the Military Funeral Honor Guard. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project Donations or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted by the funeral home. Jeff was born April 9, 1947 to Lester and Anna Lorraine (Webb) Hale in Carbondale. Survivors include; daughter, Kelley and husband Erick Schwartz of Marion; son, TJ Hale and fianc�� Lacy Shadowens of Carterville; five brothers, Mack and wife Marilyn Hale of Anna, Wayne and wife Carolyn Hale of Anna, Travis and wife Darlene Hale of Grand Tower, Eddie and wife Jennie Hale of Rend Lake and David and wife Linda Hale of Anna; step-brother, Dennis and wife Kenna Howell of Marion; sister Vera and husband Caroll Belcher of Anna; one grandchild, Braidyn Hale; and two step-grandchildren, Starr and Melisse Shadowens all of Carterville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a step-brother, Carl Richard Howell. Jeff retired as a telephone lineman for the IBEW Local #702 in West Frankfort. He served proudly as a Vietnam Vet from 1966 - 1968 in the Army. He was a life time member of the Carroll Foster VFW, Anna, Post #3455. He was also member of the Ava Saddle Club and was of Baptist faith.
