DE SOTO – Gladys Irene Chancey, 93, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was greeted at Heaven’s gate by Jesus, her husband, Paul, infant daughter, Miriam Elizabeth and her parents, Raymond and Rose (Neace) Robinson.
Gladys was born on September 14, 1930 in Sand Ridge. She married Paul Amos Chancey on April 4, 1947 in Murphysboro. He preceded her in death on June 24, 2015.
Gladys is survived by her 9 children, James (Judy Cochran) Chancey of Murphysboro, Paul Steven (Jane) Chancey of Murphysboro, Mark (Linda) Chancey of Harrisburg, John Matthew (Barbara) Chancey of Lake Kiowa, TX, Sharon (Phil) Ball of St. Charles, MO; Valerie (Dale) Gass of Murphysboro, Rose (Prosper) Fager of De Soto, Deborah (Brian) Turner of Wayne City and Rebecca Chancey (Dan Lake) of Amarillo, TX; 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; brother, Charles Robinson of Herrin; sister, Tillie Walker of Murphysboro, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant daughter, Miriam Elizabeth; brother, Roy Robinson and sisters, Juanita Johnson, Alice Wyatt, and Raedean Miller.
Gladys was a wife, mother, grandma and always cared for others who were in need. She ran her own business as a skilled and talented seamstress. She was very selfless in everything she did, loved the Lord and raised her children to do the same.
Funeral Services for Gladys will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Nazarene Church in Murphysboro with Pastor Jim Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Murdale Gardens of Memory in Murphysboro. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until the time of service on Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Alzheimer's Association, Residential Hospice and the Nazarene Church and will be accepted at the church.
