George Lindsey

MURPHYSBORO - George Lindsey, 81, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

George was born on March 10, 1941 in Creal Springs to Henry and Emma (Cowsert) Lindsey. George married Leatha Joe Wild on June 27, 1986 in Murphysboro and she survives.

Surviving family include three children: Steve, Kevin and Debbie; sisters: Della Mae Clark and Mary Clark; brothers: Everett Lindsey and Robert Lindsey; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Lloyd and Shirley Wild; sister-in-law Beth Wild and husband Don Buckley; and many nieces and nephews.

George loved to hunt, trap and fish. He enjoyed reading and learning about animals and history. George owned and operated Lindsey's Corner for almost 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; sisters: Shirley Lindsey and Patsy Bozarth; brothers: Henry Lindsey, Barney Lindsey and Billy Lindsey; and brothers-in-law James and Fred Wild.

Funeral services for George will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Karen Knodt officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the time of service on Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in George’s name to St. Francis Care Animal Shelter and will be accepted at the funeral home.
