George Franklin Bumpus

GRAND TOWER - George Franklin Bumpus, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in Carbondale surrounded by his loving family.

George was born on February 2, 1944 in Mount Vernon, IL to Dallas and Willadean (Howell) Bumpus. George married Carol Bumpus on October 20, 1962 in Woodlawn. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2022.

George enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and watching his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He was a proud member of the Laborers’ Union Local 773 for over 50 years.

George is survived by his daughters, Catherine (Wayne) Newell, Carla (Mark) Lasley, and Karen (TC) Schaefer; grandchildren, Lacy Scarbrough, Lindsay Boldrey, Ashtyn-Hope Thessen, George Colton Lasley, Ryan Schaefer, Carolyn C.J. Schaefer, and Lyndon Lasley; great-grandchildren, Baileyan Pannell, Layla Rose Scarbrough, Annalyn Pannell, Arya Thessen, Iris Thessen, Elowyn Lasley, Brandon Pannell, Jr., and Elsie Thessen; brothers, Jerry and Bill Bumpus; and numerous family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol Bumpus; parents; and his brothers, Donnie and Jim Bumpus.

Graveside services for George will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, December 22, 2024 at Walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower with Pastor Richie Pyatt officiating.
