Garry Otey

CARBONDALE - Garry L. Otey, 63, of Carbondale, formally of Robinson, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at his home.

Garry was born on February 8, 1960 in Terre Haute, Indiana to William and Mary (Dunlap) Otey. Garry married Myra Dawn York on October 13, 2005 in Robinson, IL. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2023.

Garry worked for the Laborers Union Local 1197 and 773 for over thirty years. He was a member of the Victory Christian Fellowship in Murphysboro, American Legion Post 69, VFW Post 459 and Elks Lodge 1188.

Garry is survived by his sons, Garry Otey, Jr., Alaric R. Otey, Steven (Amber) R. Otey, David (Stephanie) R. Otey; grandchildren, Barrett Reid Otey, Jacob Ryder Otey, Alexander William Otey, Dakota Lynn Otey, Thomas James Otey, Gracie Lynn Inboden and Amari Finn Otey; sister, Vickie (Kent) L. Miller; brother, William Henry Otey, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myra; parents; brothers, Brian Keith Otey and Phillip E. Otey; sisters, Patty Elaine O'Neal and Dianna L. Jamerson.

Private family services for Garry will be held at a later date.
