CARBONDALE - Frieda L. Hoover, 86, passed away Sunday, May 8th, 2016 in Herrin Hospital.
She was born in Xenia, Illinois, on January 2, 1930 to Samuel and Araminta (Case) Ellis. Frieda married Bobby Broker from Alto Pass, Illinois in 1948. They were married for 40 years. Bobby preceded her in death in 1988.
Frieda met William G. Hoover and they wed in 1996. William preceded her in death in 2005. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brother Nevan “Buster” Ellis from Ft. Meyers, FL, her sister Geneva Remaley from Ann Arbor, MI and her brother Gayle Ellis from Morrison, Illinois.
Frieda is survived by four children, Larry Broker of Ormond Beach, FL, Russell Broker & Jo Carol Deniston of Carbondale, IL, Steve & Mary Broker of Dallas, TX, and Jill & John Reinking of Fountain Valley, CA; (6) grandchildren; (3) great grandchildren and sister Mary K. & Roscoe “Mo” Hendrickson from Springfield, Illinois.
Frieda worked at the Carbondale National Bank for over 35 years, and the SIU Airport for 10 years. She was an active member of the University Baptist Church. Frieda’s love of traveling took her to many places throughout the US and around the World.
Having lunch at the senior citizen center in Carbondale and viewing the Varsity Theater Stage Co. productions were things Frieda loved attending later in her life. She also enjoyed being a part of the Second Act and AARP meetings.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. John Annable officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Murphysboro.
Memorials may be made to University Baptist Church or Senior Adult Services of Carbondale and will be accepted at the funeral home.
