Fay Heern

CARBONDALE - Fay F. Heern, 92, passed away on July 27, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Fay was born on February 21, 1932 in Boskydell to Hugh and Edith (Tabouring) Stearns. She married Charles Heern on June 17, 1951 in Boskydell. He preceded her in death on November 15, 2021. Together they shared over 70 years of marriage.

Fay worked as a housekeeper and care taker for many years. She was a current board member and past secretary and treasurer of the Makanda Evergreen Cemetery Association. She was also the secretary and treasurer for the Pomona Ridge Sunday School. Fay loved to garden and keep her cow pasture looking like a golf course.

Fay is survived by her daughter, Jane Evans; sons, Gary (Glenda) Heern and Roger (Lori) Heern; grandchildren, J.T. (Amy Stretmater) Evans, Scott (Cassie) Evans, Marissa (Ryan) McKee and Jared (Carly) Heern; step-grandchildren, Miranda, Marissa, and Mallori; great-grandchildren, Finn, Asher, Sofia, Colton, and Oliver; step-great-grandchildren, Ephram, Gideon and Daxton; sisters, Joy Sanders and Effie Brimmer; and numerous other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; parents; six brothers and four sisters.

Services for Fay will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 12:00pm at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Jim Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Makanda Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00am until the time of service at the funeral home

Memorials may be made in Fay's name to Makanda Evergreen Cemetery or Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
