ALTO PASS – Everett Lee Bittle, 74, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Everett was born on February 20, 1950 to Bob and Virginia (Hickam) Bittle in Alto Pass. He married Christina Heern on December 27, 1971 at the Boskydell Church.

Everett is survived by his wife, Chris; parents, Bob and Virginia Bittle; children, Jennifer (John) Windings; Candice (Anthony) Meadows; and Brocklin Bittle; grandchildren, Tessa, Christopher, Caleb and Connor Windings, Victoria (Jacob) Bittle, Jasmine and Jada Meadows; great-grandchildren, Josh, Matthew, Lexi, Isabella, and Eden; brother, Richard (Marcia) Bittle, sister, Jean Ann (Gerald) Lindsey; sister-in-law Monica (Matt) Heern Crouse, furbabies Kodi and Rufus, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a special friend and mother of Jennifer, Pat.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Virginia Lee Bittle.

Everett served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1970. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Everett worked in several Southern Illinois Coal Mines in Reclamation until he retired in 2007. After retiring Everett and Chris enjoyed traveling in their RV during the winter months and boating in the summer. He was actively involved in the Jackson County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 69 and the Alto Pass Area Veterans group.

Funeral services for Everett will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Pastor Danny Miller officiating. Entombment will follow at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro with full military honors. Visitation will be on Saturday from 11:00am until the time service at the funeral home.

In memory of Everett, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans and will be accepted at the funeral home.
