Carbondale - Elizabeth Ann Neely Bolen, 81, passed away unexpectantly on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at 1:17 a.m. at Herrin Hospital, Herrin. Liz was born on May 5, 1931 in Carbondale to Cecil and Imogene (Rankin) Neely. They precede her in death. She is survived by her 5 children; Son, James Christopher Bolen and his life partner Dean Chavez of Richmond Heights; daughters, Belinda S and Michael C Bader of Belleville, Pamela B and Michael E Ketring of St Louis, Melissa A Yancey of Carterville, Mary Beth Bolen and partner Robert D Johnson of Belleville; 6 grandchildren, Matthew and Adam Bader, Ashley and Andrea Curd, Rachel and Tommy Yancey; 6 great-grandchildren, Mallory, Callie, Breanna, Lexi, Adam and Brooke Bader; her mother Lela Mae Neely of Green Bay, WI; and her beloved dog Tila. She is preceded in death by her children's father, James A Bolen. Liz was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale and SIU Choir. She had a beautiful solo voice and used it to glorify God. She loved her profession as a nannie and was an "adopted" grandmother to Karl and Stephanie Mueller. She was a people person and never met a stranger. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 1, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Carbondale with Reverend Alan Rhein officiating. There was a private graveside service. There will be no visitation. Memorials to First United Methodist Church for the Stephen Ministry or Church Choir are the preferred form of remembrance. Meredith Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
