Edwin D. Phillips Jr. Phd

Edwin D. Phillips Jr. PhD, 79, of Murphysboro, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015. He was the current President of the Carbondale Lion's club. He earned his PhD at Southern Illinois University and served as Professor in the Aviation's Management and Flight program. Prior to his time at SIU, Ed had a long career at United Airlines retiring as the Head of Facilities Management for their corporate headquarters. He served in the U.S. Navy (EOD) for 22 years attaining the rank of Captain. He was a very involved long-time member of the Carbondale Unitarian fellowship. He loved music and developed a jazz show at Central Michigan University that still runs today. Ed is survived by his wife, Susie; daughters, Vicki (Craig) Rawlins, Julie Phillips (Darlene DuFay) and Tammi (Tom) Pinski; grandchildren, Brooke and Andrew Rawlins; brother, E. Dallas (Gretchen) Phillips; and sister, Carol Lynn Bourns. Ed's celebration of life memorial service will be held at Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship at 105 North Parrish Lane, Carbondale, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Memorial contributions are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made in Ed's memory to the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship, the Southern Illinois Chamber Music Society or WSIU Public Broadcasting, and will be accepted at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale.
