Edith E. Felts, 106, of Makanda, passed away at 8:09 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2012 at Carbondale Rehab and Nursing Home. She was born December 30, 1905, in Marion, to John and Nettie (Ollis) Boyt. She was united in marriage to Kenneth P. Felts on October 13, 1923, in Energy. She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Crader of Fairview Heights, IL and Lois Forby of Makanda; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 15 great great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Vida Boyt, and several nieces and nephews She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth on March 17, 1990, her parents, three brothers; Arlie, Charlie and Jack Boyt and two sisters; Sally Short Brown and Myrtie Meadows. She attended Aldersgate Methodist Church and First Baptist Church of Marion until she moved to Makanda and started attending Union Hill Christian Church. Her family, her faith, love of cooking, baking and quilting were the most cherished things in her life, as well as her many loyal friends. Edith's funeral will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 16, 2012 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Gerald Holmes and Rev. Gary Darnell officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Marion. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. The preferred forms of remembrances are memorials to Union Hill Christian Church, VNA Tip Hospice, or Carbondale Rehab and Nursing Home, in care of Meredith Funeral Home, 300 S. University Ave, Carbondale, IL 62901.
