CARBONDALE – Dr. Suri Rajan, 79, of Carbondale, passed away 4:08 p.m, Thursday, April 26, 2018, at his residence.
He was born on August 31, 1938 in Bangalore, India to Nunjundiah and Jayamma Suryanarayaniah. He married Heidi Luise Moessner on November 29, at Champaign, Illinois. She survives and is of Carbondale.
Survivors include two sons, John (Miriam) Rajan and Suri Rajan; two daughters, Lisa (Nathan) Holden and Anita Rajan; one brother, Suri Subban; one sister, Leela Venkatadri; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents.
Dr. Rajan was professor of Mechanical Engineering at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale for 28 years, retiring in 2005. He specialized in combustion research for cleaner methods to burn coal for power plants. He converted from Brahman Hinduism to accept Jesus as Savior while in high school in India. He loved the Lord Jesus and fellowship with others. He was a faithful husband, a good father, grandfather and teacher. He attended First Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Anna.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00pm on Friday, May 4, at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale. Funeral Services will be 11:00am on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Anna with Rev. Paul Moessner of Omaha, Nebraska officiating. Burial will be 11:00am on Tuesday, May 8, in Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska. .
The preferred form of remembrance are memorials to Margham. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
