Dr. Sheffield Boardman, Jr.

CARBONDALE – Dr. Sheffield Boardman, Jr., 79, passed away on Sunday, January, 2, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family.



Sheffield was born on February 23, 1942 in Ravenna, OH to Sheffield Boardman, Sr. and Leta (Glover) Boardman. He married Jane F. Bessler on April 8, 1967 in Cincinnati, OH.



Sheffield served his country as a Physician in the US Navy from 1969 until 1974. He was a respected physician in the Carbondale Clinic from 1974 until his retirement in 2010. He was devoted to the well being of his many patients. Sheffield enjoyed traveling, jazz and classical music, and he enjoyed photography. He was a member of Saint Frances Xavier Church, Knights of Columbus of the Belleville Diocese, and served on various boards including Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Carbondale Clinic and Jackson County Board of Health. Sheffield also guest lectured on gastroenterology at the SIU School of Medicine. He was a champion for the unborn. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.



Sheffield is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jane; sons, Greg Boardman and wife Amy (Lawrence) Boardman and Paul Boardman; daughters, Jennifer (Boardman) Nenni and Karen (Boardman) Doan and husband Jack Doan; grandchildren, Joshuah, Ashleigh, and Sophiah Boardman, Camron, Carson, and Jaden Nenni, Keri, Emsley and Andrew Boardman, and Emerson and Jackson Doan; great- grandchildren, Aiden Newell, Aspen Faust, Peyton Faust, and Kyler Hawley; nieces, Caroline Boardman, Nancy Boardman, and Christy Regallis; and nephew, Michael Boardman.



He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Max Boardman.



Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Carbondale with Father Robert Flannery officiating. For those who cannot attend the service, it will be live streamed on the funeral home website (www.meredithfh.com). Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00-11:00 am on Saturday at the church.
