Donald W. Shay

Carbondale - Donald W. Shay, 64, passed away at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at his home with his wife by his side. Don was born December 13, 1950 in Boonville, MO to Max S. and Edna M. (Young) Shay. He married Kathy J. Shapkoff on September 17, 1999. She survives and is of Carbondale. Other survivors are sons, Matthew W. (Yoko) Shay of Littleton, CO, and Ryan Lowe (Eman) of Carbondale; daughters, Sarah M. Shay of O'Fallon, MO, and Natalie (Paul) Melzer of Carbondale; grandchildren, Taylor M. Shay of O'Fallon, MO, Macy, Rya and Dalton Wade Melzer all of Carbondale, Max and Kotoko Shay of Littleton, CO; brothers, Keith (Kathy) Shay of Palos Park, Gordon (Tammy) Shay of Pilot Grove, MO and Jeff (Tara) Shay of Brentwood, TN; and his mother, Edna of Pilot Grove, MO. He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Gary Shay. Don had been in the financial services field since 1972. In June 1984, he established Burley-Shay Investments and affiliates, which he was sole proprietor. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the SIH Cancer Institute, or the Special Olympics of Illinois and will be accepted by Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale.
