Donald Ray Milroy Sr.

Carbondale - Donald R. Milroy Sr., 86, passed away at 1:22 p.m. on Tuesday, May 07, 2013 at Helia Healthcare of Carbondale. Donald was born August 16, 1926 in Genesee Township, to Reginald "Rex" and Mabel (Hines) Milroy. He married Anna J. (Brown) Milroy on December 30, 1948 at South Baptist Church in South Boston, MA. She preceded him in death on December 10, 2008. Survivors include two sons; Donald "Ray" Milroy, Jr. of Pecatonica, IL and Mark Alan Milroy of Tiffin, OH; a daughter, Paulette Anne Milroy of Carbondale; a brother, David George Milroy of Polo, IL; 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Donald is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Daniel Ralph Milroy and a grandson, Tim Milroy. Donald served our country in the Navy as a Commissary Steward 3rd Class, from 1945 - 1949. He also worked as a Cheese maker for Kraft Foods Company for 20 years and as a Tire Analyst for Kelly-Springfield Tire Company for 25 years. He was of Methodist faith and had been a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale. He was also a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Evergreen Lodge #170 of Freeport, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite 32nd degree Valley of Freeport, Past Master of Milledgeville Masonic Lodge #345, of Milledgeville, Past Commander Milledgeville American Legion Post of Milledgeville, Past Commander of Pecatonica American Legion Post, of Pecatonica and Past Member of Stevenson County Board of Supervisors. Donald has requested that his body be donated to SIUC School of Medicine. A Masonic Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 18, 2013, with a Memorial Service immediately following the ceremony at the First United Methodist Church, Carbondale, with Reverend Alan Rhein officiating. Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance, and may be made to the church, and will be accepted by Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale.
