Donald L. Leigeber

Donald “Don” L. Leigeber, 73, of Carbondale passed away at 2 PM, Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Funeral service will be held Sunday May 5, 2024 at Meredith Funeral Home with viewing at 11:30am and a brief service at 12:00pm with Rev. Kerry Bean officiating. 

Don was born April 20, 1951, in Michigan City, Indiana to Robert D. and Eleanor C. Leigeber.  He never married.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother’s wife, Elizabeth G. Leigeber.  Survivors include his brother John “Jay” Leigeber of Harleysville Pennsylvania and three cousins David, Daniel and Douglas May, all of whom reside in Lawrence, Kansas.

Don was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Carbondale Illinois.   Don received a Bachelor’s Degree in industrial management from Purdue University, W. Lafayette, Indiana in 1974. He worked in industry for about a decade including years at 3M, Rayovac, Green Giant and Schweigert Furniture.  He managed and then owned Crab Orchard Manufactured Home Community in Carbondale, spanning several decades.

Don loved reading science fiction, participating in historical reenactment of medieval battles, playing online games and especially many aspects of automobile racing.  For decades, he loved racing his radio-controlled cars as a member of the ALPHA RC club in Carbondale. 

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Illinois, or First Presbyterian Church of Carbondale.
