GRAND TOWER - Clarence Vivian "Alley-Oop" Huffman, 90, of Grand Tower, passed away at 4:06 a.m., Sunday, July 29, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Clarence was born on April 8, 1922 at Grand Tower to Fred Russell and Alma LaWanda (Freeman) Huffman. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Roxane and Gary Collins of Grand Tower; and Seven grandchildren and their significant others, Eric Kelley & Tina Mezo, Sheila & Brandon Myers, Heather Luna & Mike Fulford, Mandi Collins & Dave Heaster, Morgan & Kevin Iman, Rusty Huffman & Brandi Compton and John & Jacy Jackson; Seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jasmyn, Allie, Gage, Zoe, Jace and Rustyn; daughter-in-law, Shelley Huffman of Gorham and a very close friend Imogene Ebersohl of Murphysboro. He is preceded in death by his wife, Bettie J. Huffman on December 28, 1996; a son, Clarence L. 'Butch' Huffman on November 13, 1997, his parents and two brothers. Alley-Oop was employed by CIPS, Grand Tower, as Head Repairman for 34 years until his retirement in 1985, he was also owner of Gorham Market for 20 years. He served our country from 1942 - 1946 in the United States Army and was in WWII and Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Grand Tower, the International Union of Operating Engineers, AFL-CIO Local #148 of Marysville, VFW Post #7190 of Murphysboro, and a Life Member of the American Legion Post #127 of Murphysboro. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at Meredith Funeral Home in Grand Tower with Reverend Carl Dillow; with a Military rites burial at Walker Hill Cemetery, Grand Tower. Friends may call upon the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Kitchen Fund in Grand Tower, and will be accepted by the funeral home.
