Charlotte May Johnson, 100, of Petersburg, died at 9:03 a.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Sunny Acres in Petersburg.
Charlotte was born May 13, 1918, in Peru, IN, the daughter of Ralph and Frances Hogentogler Miller. She married James “Herbert” Johnson; he preceded her in death on October 31, 1981.
Charlotte and her husband owned and operated the Bus Depot in Carbondale for many years. She was a member of the Petersburg United Methodist Church and loved playing cards, working in the yard and her garden, and cleaning, but especially loved playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Jana Jane Shoemaker and Charlotte May Dial; grandson, Joseph Todd Dial; three brothers; and three sisters.
Charlotte is survived by her grandchildren, Jim (wife, Mary) Dial of Riverton, Shelley (husband, Bryan) Stott of Petersburg, Sheri (husband, Chris) Gibbs of Petersburg, Shannon Dial of St. Louis, MO, Jon Dial of Petersburg, and Justin (fiancée, Tifani) Dial of New Berlin; great-grandchildren, Shawna Dial, Shelby Dial, Jordan (Christina) Stott, Aaron Stott, Maggie Gibbs, Max Gibbs, Lillian Dial, and May Dial; great-great-grandchildren, Leah Stott, Reagan Stott, Jay Stott, and Lyla Thatcher; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was accorded by Lincoln Land Cremation Society.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 13, 2018 in Oakland Cemetery with Rev. Alan Rhein officiating.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the caring staff at Sunny Acres for their care and compassion over the last year.
