CARTERVILLE - Charles Dean Wohlwend of Carterville, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the age of 61. Born on November 27, 1962 in Carbondale to Jackie and Charlyne (Heisler) Wohlwend, Charles dedicated 45 years of his life to Walgreens, serving diligently as a shift lead. His exceptional work ethic and loyalty to his job were commendable, making a lasting impact on his colleagues and customers.
A devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Charles found immense joy in watching sports of all kinds. Whether it was baseball, basketball, or football, he cherished the thrill of competition and camaraderie that sports brought into his life. However, his greatest source of love and pride were his nieces, Madeleine and Emma. Charles's affection for his family shone brightly, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Charles will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Charles is survived by his sister, Jaci and husband Mike Planchet; and nieces, Madeleine and Emma.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Gathering where friends and family can share memories with one another will be held from 5:30pm until 6:30pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Charles's name may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.
