Charles Clarence Leming

Carbondale - Charles Clarence Leming, 87, of Carbondale, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Charles was born November 23, 1935 in Sparta to Clarence and Agnes V (Schmidt) Leming.

He married Donna Leming on October 29, 1960 in Cobden. She survives and is of Carbondale.

Other survivors include three sons; James (Dawn) Leming of Carbondale, Philip (Laura) Leming of Stanton, CA. and Matthew (Claudia) Leming of Ontario, CA.; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Curtis, Tom and Robert Leming; and one sister, Helen Childs.

He proudly served our country, in the Army, from 1958 – 1960. He also worked as a Teacher for Carbondale Community High School for 33 years until his retirement.

Charles was a member of St Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Illinois Township Organization, Jackson County Retired Teacher Association, Knights of Columbus, Democratic Jackson County, Democrat Central Committee and the Carbondale Township Clerk. He also enjoyed fishing, working with computers, and spending time with his family.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, November 3, 2023 at 11:00 am at St Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Robert Flannery officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, November 2, 2023 from 5:00pm until 7:00 pm at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.

Memorials to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church are the preferred form of remembrance and will be accepted at the funeral home.
