Carolyn Tanner

Carolyn Tanner, 56, of Herrin, formerly of Carterville, died 6:55 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011 at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center, Herrin. . Carolyn was born on Wednesday, August 31, 1955 to Harold and Kathryn (Dean) Yates in Carbondale, IL. She had worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant until her retirement. Survivors include her loving daughter and son-in-law, who were her caregivers, Alana and Eric Joines of Carbondale; her mother, Kathryn Yates of Murphysboro; one brother Richard Yates of Boise, ID, and one sister Sharon Kay Griffith of Newton. Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, a sister, and a brother. A funeral service will be at the Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2011 with Rev. Alan Tanner officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Herrin City Cemetery, Herrin. Memorials honoring Carolyn's memory may be made to the family for a college fund of her only grandson, William or to Hospice of Southern Illinois are the preferred forms of remembrance and will be accepted by the funeral home.
