Carolyn Fleming, 83, of Carterville, formerly of Carbondale, passed away Friday afternoon, March 2, 2012 at her daughter's home in Eureka, Missouri. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister and a great friend to all who knew her. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale with Pastor Joe Scheets officiating. Burial will be in McKinney Hill Cemetery, Carbondale. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the BJC Hospice Mail Stop 92-92-275, 8300 Eager Rd Suite 560A, St. Louis MO 63144 or to the American Cancer Society, 4503 W. Deyoung Suite 200, Marion, IL 62959 and will also be accepted at the funeral home. Carolyn was born at Flora on August 14, 1928 to Raymond and Inez (Flory) Robinson. Upon high school graduation, she attended two years of business school. On December 16, 1948, she married Robert John Fleming at East St. Louis. He passed away on August 4, 2006. Carolyn retired from SIUC as an administrative secretary after 40 years of service. Family members include a son, Stephen Fleming and the late Abby Rudolph of Puerto Rico; three daughters, Debbie and Thomas McDonnell of Eureka, Missouri, Kathy Fleming and Beth Sherman of Minneapolis Minnesota, and Karen Livengood of Carterville and her friend Chris Livengood of Anna; two brothers and sisters-in-laws, Jerry and Ana Robinson of Laredo, Texas, and Kenneth Lee and Deborah Robinson of Carbondale; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol Sue and Bill Schoolcraft of DeSoto, Margaret Louise and David Holthaus of Highland, Pamela Fay and Daniel Black of Centralia; two granddaughters, Jami Marie Livengood and Kathleen Marie McDonnell; a brother-in law and his wife, James and Sandy Fleming of St. Louis, Missouri; and cousins Larry and Carol Brennan of St. Louis, Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, and step-mother, Edna Robinson. The family would like to thank the following for the wonderful care giving to Carolyn: Dr. Karen Strack and Anne Browning, P.A. and their staff, all the BJC Hospice personnel, and the BJC Emergency Room staff.
