Carol Edith Carter

CARBONDALE - Carol Edith Carter, 63, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at her home.

Carol was born October 11, 1960 in East Saint Louis, IL to Robert W. and Ruth (Schmidt) Carter.

She is survived by her greatest loves. Her children: Brian (Courtney) Wilson, Robi (John) Stephenson, both of Ava, Jennifer Michelle Koch of Lafayette, IN, Andrew Banks of Carbondale, Thomas (Tommy) Banks of Ava, and Anthony (Andrea) Laise of Washington DC. Her grandchildren: Trenton Wilson and Kinion Stephenson of Ava, Abi and Preston Koch of Lafayette, IN, Parker Banks of Mt. Vernon, and Otto and Maeve Banks of Carbondale.

She is also survived by her brother, John Grigaliunas, sister Sue (Jim) Beredele of Texas. Sister-in-law Wanda (James Jenkins) Garner. Many nieces and nephews, Russell Fu, Michelle (Evan) Hall, Trevor Schroader, and Christina Garner. Great nieces and nephews: Carsan, Devan and Ava Hall and Morgan Garner. Father of her children, Jerry Wilson of Ava and Tom Banks of Eldorado.

Through the years Carol worked at numerous places. Her jobs came second to her children and she had a variety of work experiences. Jackson County Ambulance Service, Home Day Care Center, Adolescent Health Center at Rebound, American Red Cross Blood Services, Petal Patch Florist (owner), South Highway Water District and her final favorite job at Dr. Paul Ploegman’s.

Carol volunteered as manager of several youth soccer teams and as referee scheduler for Carbondale Soccer Inc. She loved camping, reading, traveling, horseback riding but most of all she loved her family.

She had a strong but personal relationship with God and wants to thank her many, many prayer warriors. She loved deeply and the best she could and that’s all anyone can ask.

She also sends her love and thanks to her friends that stood with her always. Pat, Patsy, Mitzie, Deb Gray, Cheri and Kelly, Noralee and Keith, Nancy Esling, Dianne Burns, Kathy Wellman, Shirrell and Charlie Ramey, Wanda Garner, JoAnn Needham, Jim David, and Sid Griffin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roby Carter; one infant son at birth; her grandparents, Raymond and Flora Schmidt and James and Edith Carter.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.
