Barbara Lipe

Carbondale - Barbara Joyce (Penrod) Lipe, 70, went to meet her Lord on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 4:15 p.m. at her home. She was born to Willard "Buck" and Mary (Blandford) Penrod on December 9, 1943 in St. Andrews Hospital, Murphysboro. Her parents preceded her in death in 2002. Barbara grew up in Grand Tower and graduated Shawnee High School, Wolf Lake, class of 1961. She attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Her student work job in the Admissions Office section of the registrar's office led to a full time Civil Service position. She retired from the College of Liberal Arts Advisement Office. She leaves behind her sons, Joshua Lipe and wife Meredith, and their son Thomas, all of Carbondale, and Matthew Lipe and wife Ashley, of Wylie, Texas. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale, with Robert Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Walker Hill Cemetery, Grand Tower. A visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to This Able Veteran, or Walker Hill Cemetery Fund, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
