Barbara Jean Farris

Carbondale - Barbara Jean Farris, 79, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, formerly of Carbondale, passed away 7:06 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015, at Fountainbleau Lodge, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with her son and grandson by her side. Barbara was born January 7, 1936 to Richard Myers and Lillian (Rolston) Craig in Kirksville, Missouri. She was of Christian faith; a 3rd generation P.E.O. and member of the P.E.O. Chapters in both Carbondale and Cape Girardeau, from 1954 - 2015. She was also a member of the Stage Company from 1983 to 2012. Barbara was a daughter of DAR and a former scout mother. Barbara was employed by Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California as support staff for 3 years. She met many famous actors and actresses. She was the first social worker at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for 12 years, she also worked as a guardian and advocacy for the State of Illinois for 15 years, until her retirement in 1995. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, C. Craig and Sherrie Payne Farris of Jackson, Missouri; six grandchildren, Christopher Craig Farris of Rolla, Missouri, Abigail Lillian Farris, and Dalton Thomas Farris, both of Jackson Missouri, Jonathon Erick Allen of Nashville, Tennessee, Laurel Ashlie Allen and Tanner Payne Allen, both of Jackson, Missouri; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard Rolston Craig and Karen Aeschliman of Lafayette, Louisiana; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her best friend, Milton Edward Farris, and her parents. Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Meredith Funeral Home of Carbondale with Rev. Paul Hicks officiating; with a visitation from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be private. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Stage Company, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
