Anthony Ron Herring

Anthony Ronald Herring, age 83, of Carbondale passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 to his heavenly home surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 12, 1939 in Grand Tower, to the late John Herring Jr. and Mary Ellen (McRaven) Herring. He was united in marriage to Martha Grace (McKinney) Young on November 24, 1971.

He was a member of the Lakeland Baptist Church.

He was a 1958 graduate of Murphysboro High School.

He was employed by Operating Engineers Local 318 for 63 years, serving as the business manager from August of 1993 until his retirement in 2002.

Ron enjoyed playing golf, traveling, and time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Grace, of 50 years; daughter Kelly Young of Foster City, CA; sisters Kimberly McRoberts, Faye Lee, Ruth Vestal, and Alberta Reiman, all of Murphysboro; sister and brother-in-laws, Frances Vaughn of Mt. Morris, Margaret (Dick) Rushing of Paducah, KY, Mary (Frank) Marolda of Las Vegas, NV, Janet (Morris) McDaniel of Carbondale, Sarah McKinney of Carterville, Karen (Gary) Steele of La Quinta, CA, Donna (Dave) Stull of Murphysboro, Richard (Lois) McKinney of Carterville, Debbie (Danny) Piquard of Murphysboro, Ralph Habbe of Nashville, IL, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elbina Barnett and Ina Herring, brother Ben Herring, sister in laws, Bonnie Waller, Norma Habbe, Dee McKinney, brother in laws Dean Barnett, Don Reiman, David Lee, Tom Vestal, George McKinney, Clarence McKinney, Don Waller, Venus Vaughn, nephew Andy Vestal, and niece Gay Grace.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 11:00 AM. There will be visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 18, 2022, and on Monday, September 19, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:0 AM at the Lakeland Baptist Church with Pastor Phil Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Murdale Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Murphysboro.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the ALS Association, 1950 Craig Rd, Suite 200, St. Louis, Missouri, 63146.
