Anna Elizabeth (Ellis) ���Ebby��� Brunty

Carbondale - Anna Elizabeth (Ellis) "Ebby" Brunty, formerly of Tempe, AZ, and Carbondale, passed into heaven on Monday, February 4, 2014. Ebby was born in Pomona, to Ben and Edith Ellis, on July 1, 1928. She was one of seven children, and grew up in Murphysboro where she was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church. She was also a member of the University Baptist Church of Carbondale for over 50 years. In 1944 she married the love of her life, Delman Brunty. They enjoyed 61 years together until his death in 2005. In 1947 they moved to Carbondale, where she lived the rest of her life, except for the last few months when she was hospitalized in Arizona. Ebby was a devoted wife, mother, friend, and Christian. She is survived by her loving son, Joseph Brunty, of Tempe, Arizona and his wife, Sheila; grandchildren, Tim Brunty and Devin Kempster of Arizona; great-grandchildren, Allen Smith, Nicole Kempster, Kylan Kempster, and Katherine Brunty; and sister, Wanda Kuharich of the Chicago area. She leaves many well-loved nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as friends that she cherished for many years. She was preceded in death by five brothers; Hurchel "Red" Ellis, Dale Ellis, Ray Ellis, Carl Ellis, and Joe Pete Ellis and her parents. A memorial service will be held at the University Baptist Church in Carbondale, at 1:00 p.m. on March 13, 2014 with Rev. John Annable officiating. Inurnment will be next to her husband, at Pleasant Grove Memorial Park in Murphysboro. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or University Baptist Church and will be accepted by Meredith Funeral Home.
