Alma L. Raines, 93, of Carbondale passed away in her home at 4:20 p.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2013 in Oakland Cemetery, Carbondale with Rev. Dr. K. Stephen Combs officiating. Memorial donations to the American Heart Association are the preferred form of remembrance. Alma was born at Murphysboro on May 19, 1920, to George Franklin and Flossie (Hancock) Coffer. She married George William Raines November 21, 1942 at Carbondale. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1991. She is also preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, and one brother. She was a member of the former First Baptist Church, Carbondale, a homemaker, and most of all she had a deep love of her family. Alma enjoyed gardening, observing wild life and hummingbirds. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Allan and Elaine Raines of Hot Springs, AR; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Larry Jackson of Carbondale, Katherine D and Alan Vickery of Eldorado, KS, and Brenda and Kent Denzel of Columbia, MO; seven grandchildren, Tracey and Greg Mouw of Bettendorf, Iowa, Brent and Karrie Jackson of Marion, Bobby and Angela Jackson of Carterville, Melissa Minton of Hot Springs, AR, Jeremy Raines of Hot Springs, AR, Michael and Laura Denzel of Columbia, MO and Matthew Denzel of Columbia, MO; eight great grandchildren; and one sister, Lora Bateman of Murphysboro. Alma is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
