DeSoto - Alice V. Hethmon, 91, of DeSoto, passed away at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Alice was born to Richard and Emma Ruth (George) Stevens on February 17, 1922 in Karnak, IL. She married Arnold James Hethmon on April 1, 1940 in Charleston, MO. He preceded her death on November 13, 1992. They moved from Cairo to DeSoto in 1948, and lived there the rest of their lives. Alice is survived by a daughter, Dianna (Dan) Young of DeSoto; two sons, Paul (Janet) Hethmon of Collierville, TN., and Carl (Ka) of Centralia; one brother, Arnold Stevens of Linden, MI.; two sisters, Betty (Marvin) Baughn of Evansville, IN.; Jo Catherine Holder of White Hall, eight grandchildren, Kim, Allen, Scott, Doug, Todd, Stacey, Lynn and Julia; seventeen great grandchildren; and eleven great great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Rev James Stevens and Amos Stevens; and a sister, Leona Denman. Alice worked for Dr. Karnes as his Dental Assistant for 20 years until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of Mt Calvary Lutheran Church of DeSoto and a member of the Dental Assistant Association. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 in DeSoto Cemetery, DeSoto with Rev. Josh Wehmeyerer officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery. Memorial donations are preferred form of remembrance, and may be made to the donor's choice.
