Alejandro Caceres Joseph passed away peacefully at his home on November 24, 2021 at the age of 75.
Born and raised in Montevideo Uruguay, Alejandro is preceded in death by his loving parents, Alejandro Cáceres Pereira, Carmen Joseph de Cáceres and his wife Carmen Pittaluga de Caceres. He is survived by his sister, Carmen Caceres de Cuneo, brother in law Roberto Cuneo, a nephew Roberto Cuneo Caceres, nieces Natalia Perez de Cuneo and Gabriela Cuneo Caceres, a great niece Emelia Cuneo Perez and an aunt Hilda Faroppa de Caceres all of Montevideo.
Alejandro was an accomplished pianist. He came to the United States in 1979 on a music scholarship through the Organization of American States. His studies led him to the Indiana University School of Music where he received degrees in Piano Performance, Choral Conducting and a master’s degree and PH. D in Spanish Literature.
In 1994 Alejandro became an Associate Professor of Foreign Language and Literature at SIU Carbondale. He had a love for his students, a hunger to do research including the successfully published book of poetry interpretation on Delmira Augustini among other accomplishments.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a future date. Donations in his honor can be made to the SIU Foundation.
