DuQuoin – Alberta Futrell, 90, of DuQuoin, formally of Carbondale, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at Marshall Browning Hospital.
Alberta was born on February 9, 1926 to Floyd and Edith (Penrod) Tuttle in Pomona Township. She married Bruce Futrell on June 9, 1946. He preceded her in death on December 9, 2000.
Survivors include her children, David Futrell and partner Sharon Kohler of Carbondale and Paula Turnbough of Elkville; grandchildren, Tammy (Chris) Wieseman of Cobden, Dustin Futrell of Anna and Dillion Futrell of Marisa, step-granddaughter, Cheyanne Adams; five great-grandchildren, Krysti (Austin) Sellars, Dakota Wieseman, Allaysa, Mason and Kimber Futrell.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, and two sisters.
Alberta worked as a cook for Carbondale Community High School and the Baptist Student Center. She enjoyed taking care of others and helping those in need. She also enjoyed spending time at the Carbondale Senior Citizens Center. Alberta was a member of Murdale Baptist Church and a 62 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Services for Alberta will be 1:00pm on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Brother Ed Falgout officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Friday, February 3, at the funeral home with an Easter Star Service at 12:00pm. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park, Murphysboro.
Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the family to assist in the purchase of a grave marker. Memorials will be accepted at the funeral home.
