A. S. "Ike" Kirkikis

Carbondale - A. S. "Ike" Kirkikis, 79, passed away at 5:25 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with his loving family by his side. Ike was born February 25, 1934 to Sotirios Achilles and Kokoni (Flora) Kirkikis in New York City, NY. He married Sheila Kay Stiglish on May 17, 1975 in Carbondale. Survivors include his wife, Sheila Kirkikis of Carbondale; son and daughter-in-law, Sotirios Achilles (Tanya) Kirkikis of St Louis, MO; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Agnes (Robert) Morrison of Laramie, WY and Ramona Suzanne (Curtis) Girtman of DeSoto; sister, Helen Cimarosti of Cincinnati, OH; two grandchildren, Meghann and Steven; and two great grandchildren, Melony and Jordan; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. Ike was a quiet, strong and passionate Christian. He was a former member of the National Association of Development Organizations (NADO), where he sat on the national board for over 20 years; and the Noon Rotary Club of Carbondale. He was the Executive Director of Greater Egypt Regional Planning and Development Commission for 42 years until his retirement in October 2010. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps from May 1954 - May 1956. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at Meredith Funeral Home, Carbondale, with Rev Tom Stearns officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. A private interment will be held at a later date. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Illinois, and will be accepted by the funeral home.
