Ellis Grove - Ronnie "Skillet" Ellet, 71, of Ellis Grove formerly of Grand Tower, passed away at 9:10 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Marion. Visitation will be Saturday July 12, from 9-11 A.M. followed by a memorial service at 11 A.M. at the Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Darrell Neathery officiating. Ronnie was born on July 3, 1943 at Murphysboro to Carl and Ruby (Hancock) Ellet. He served his country in the US Army and the Air force Reserve during the Vietnam Era. On September 4, 1969 he married Janey Foster-Meade at Grand Tower, IL. She survives and is of Ellis Grove. Other survivors include two daughters, Dana (Brian) Heine of Ava; Beth (Fianc�� Josh Farris) Ellet, of Percy; and one son Rob Ellet of St. Mary's, Missouri; two brothers, Jim (Joann) Ellet and Doug (Terry) Ellet both of Indiana; and six grandchildren, Coty Ellet, Austin & Hunter Heine, Hayden Ellet, Alejandra Lloyd, and Payton Ellet. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, David Wayne Ellet. After 35 years of being a railroad brakeman and switchman for the Kansas City Southern Railroad, Ronnie retired in July of 2003. Ronnie's Hobbies included taking great pride and care of his cars and lawn. He enjoyed mowing and was known as the "Lawn Mower Man" on Shawneetown Trail of Ellis Grove. He also looked out for the surrounding neighbors and Mr. and Mrs. Kipp. He was a loving father, grandfather and a husband. He is our Hero! Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and can be made to the Ronnie Ellet Family, or the VA Community Living Center in Marion and will be accepted at the Funeral Home.
