John C. Mcdermott

February 19, 1957 — July 13, 2016

Carbondale – John C. McDermott, 59, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at his residence.



John was born on February 19, 1957 to John Morton and Carol Hedvig (Dick) McDermott.



He is survived by one brother, James M. McDermott of Columbia, MD; sister and brother-in-law, Maggie and Matt Fischer of Pleasant Prairie, WI; two nephews, John C. (J.C.) Fischer of Stanford, CA. and Lucas Fischer of Norman, OK; good friend, Steve McGee of Murphysboro; and several cousins.



John is proceeded in death by his parents, and his long term companion Karen Watson.



He was a member of the Elks Lodge 572 in Murphysboro, the Moose Lodge 1591 in Murphysboro, and of the American and Illinois Bar Associations.



John graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1979 before coming to Southern Illinois University School of Law, where he graduated in 1982. He was self-employed and worked as an active lawyer for many years.



Memorial services for John will be held at Meredith Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend John Annable officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.



Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to the Illinois Elks Children’s Care Corporation.



John will be remembered not only by his generous heart, but also through the many people whose lives he impacted and touched throughout his personal and professional life.
